Factory "Kokvilna"
Kokvilna is Latvian for cotton. According to wikimapia, this complex was built in 1913 and then was used as a rubber factory under the name "Buffalo". Later it was converted to manufacture cotton. Factory operated till late 90s. and then manufacturing equipment was sold. And factory was left empty. Probably it was used for other small businesses and then most of the complex was demolished. Only building that are still intact are main manufacturing building, as it is 100 years old and considered as a cultural monument. Future plans for this building are unclear, but the owner is very interested to preserve the building. There are plans for reconverting it into flats, or shopping center.
Getting there is easy, you can take bus No. 2 or 24 from city center and it will take you right to the factory. Name of the bus stop is Fabrika "Kokvilna". Also you can take tram No. 5 or 9 and you will go just past factory and your stop is "1. trolejbusu parks".
And don't try to enter the factory illegally, just ask the security guy can you go in. He is located on second gates in soviet-building. |
